Preparing your stream desk

Your first broadcast: a practical checklist

Keep your first run small and observable. One server, a short video, and one destination make it easier to see which part of the workflow needs attention.

Before you create the broadcast

Check the prerequisites in their own pages. The Getting started button in the dashboard top bar can guide you back to each one.

  • Servers: a recent authenticated heartbeat and detected FFmpeg availability.
  • Media library: the source video has finished uploading and appears in the library.
  • Destinations: current platform-issued publishing details and live access.
  • Billing & plans: enough saved destinations, concurrent outputs, storage, and transfer allowance.

Prepare a draft you can review

Open Live streams and choose Prerecorded Broadcast. Give it a clear name, select your server and source, then choose the destination. Review resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and any compatibility warnings. Saving the broadcast does not start it.

Start when the platform is ready

Prepare any platform event or incoming preview, then use Start in the workspace. Review run history and each output’s report. If a command remains pending or an output fails, read the available evidence before retrying. Avoid creating repeated starts just because the platform preview has not appeared yet.

Check what a viewer would experience

Verify the incoming picture and audio using the destination platform. Use its own publication and visibility controls. The workspace shows process evidence; the platform is where you confirm whether the feed is accepted and published.

Close the loop

Stop the test, confirm the reported stopped state, and review measured output usage. Keep notes about the source, settings, and outcome. Add more destinations or increase quality only after a simple test behaves as expected.
